Cut & Paste. Build the real Otocamera Angel
Download the PDF file and print it out. By following the instructions you can build the real Otocamera Angel and regenerate yourself in creating sublime “Oltrefoto” of pure light by framing bright subjects and bringing the smartphone lens closer to the viewfinder. It is recommended to keep the Otocamera in half-light while framing the subject.

Angelo Candiano born in Modica lives in Turin. He studied Photographic Arts at the ITIS “G. Bodoni” in Turin and Scenography at the “Albertina” Academy of Fine Arts in Turin where he graduated in 1987 with a thesis on Art History I nodi biunivoci (course of prof.sa Mirella Bandini) on the relationship between art and photography in the historical avant-garde; and with a second optional thesis Leonardo Bank, co-realized in the form of a multimedia installation ante litteram on the three media of the twentieth century, photography, cinema and video, and set up in the spaces of the Academy in June of the same year. Since 1984 he has been professionally involved in photography theory and research, on light and with light, through the language and materials of photography and art, with happy conceptual incursions into philosophy (a beloved subject that also led him to attend the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Turin for only one year and then continue his self-taught studies). He elaborated the complex system of photosophy (a term coined as early as 1984) in which the elements that make it up are generated by conceptual and mathematical calculations in which light is both subject and object at the same time, thus highlighting the technological characteristics of the photographic medium in a pure, extreme and precise language, far from the traditional results of photography. He made his official debut in 1985 while still a student, with the folder of 10 Naturam Invoco photographs, his first organic work, presented by Franco Torriani with the personal exhibition of the same name in Turin at the Unione Culturale “Franco Antonicelli”, a space curated in those years by Francesco Poli; and continues the careful and selected exhibition activity in galleries and public spaces in Italy and abroad including Milan, Bologna, Genoa, Brescia, Venice, Trento, Rome, Naples, Pesaro, Capo D’Orlando, Paris, Köln, Thessaloniki, Liège, Katowice, Middlesbrough, Taipei . .. In 1997, together with Maurizio Bolognini, he patented the OLTREARTE® trademark, which will mark a series of visual and theoretical-conceptual operations, exhibitions, publications, interventions, on the end and beyond of art in the age of neotechnologies, including the first ever artistic installation in a commercial hypermarket, the Auchan in Venaria Reale (TO) in 1998, and the participation the following year in Artmedia VII, an exhibition of aesthetics and technological arts invented and curated by Prof. Mario Costa. In 2005, for the twenty years of his activity, he set up his first anthological exhibition, Complessità, curated by the same author and Domenico Scudero at the MLAC-Museo Laboratorio di Arte Contemporanea of the University “La Sapienza” in Rome where he exhibited seventy works from some routes of his system and the special project Netica. His works are kept in private and public collections including GAM-Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Turin, Collezione Intesa-Sanpaolo in Milan, Raccolta Civica di Capo D’Orlando, MLAC-Museo Laboratorio d’Arte Contemporanea in Rome. He has published essays on art theory and photography, and also curated the exhibition Nodi in 2003. Multidimensional photographic works from the 1980s and 1990s at the Galleria Martano in Turin; and in 2009 Estremi del Libro d’artista together with Giorgio Maffei at the Galleria Cripta 747 in Turin. Since 1989 he has been teaching at various private schools of photography; since 1993 he has been teaching “History of photography” and “Culture of the photographic project” at the IED-Istituto Europeo di Design in Turin; and since 2000 in the state schools of “Art Education” in middle schools, and “Design and History of Art” in high schools, and “Laboratory of photography” at the IIS BOPA-Bodoni Paravia in Turin. He has also presented his research work in seminars and lectures at the Polytechnic of Turin, at the DAMS of the University of Turin, at the Catholic University of Milan and Brescia. Since 2007 he has dedicated himself to permanent site-specific light installations in private residences, to the reworking of a special form of portrait on commission, and to the study and analysis of his photosophy system. He resumed his personal exhibition activity in the gallery in June 2017 with the “double” installation Light in room… set up in the spaces of Guido Costa Projects in Turin, followed in September by the necessary second part …for a very long time designed to reveal some twenty years of automatic processes of production of works thanks to light; in addition to presenting his already known work on the perception of light and the vision of reality through it, reworked in the new installation Miracolo.
