Sculture di emergenza is a project that invites you to discover the hidden dimensions of the domestic environment, transforming the shadows of the objects into table sculptures. The shape and dimensions of these sculptures will vary in relation to the object on which attention will fall. Mine fell on the coloured packaging of a food supplement.
INSTRUCTIONS
1_Place the object on a sheet of cardboard.
2_Draw the contours of the brought shadow on the sheet.
3_The brought shadow can be divided into two parallelograms, to which it is necessary to add another two slightly higher and mirrored upside down (figure 01).
4_Add a rectangle equivalent to the side surface of the box and cut out the entire outline (figure 02).
5_Fold the cardboard along the lines. The drawing of the lines must remain inside the fold. To improve the fold, you can slightly cut along the lines on the opposite side of the sheet.
6_Glue by spreading a light veil of vinyl glue along the matching edges (figure 03).
7_We have thus obtained the “shadow volume” of the object (figures 04, 05).

The project was born from an exchange of ideas with Narciso Silvestrini on shadow geometry. Riccardo Sinigaglia has acoustically elaborated the “shadow volume”.
