Camminate Domestiche (Domestic walks)
Instructions
In search of the house’s unconscious.
Images that we always see, in passing, without noticing that we don’t care. When we walk in our house our eyes fall on walls areas or something else that are on the edge. “The thing is there like that” and discard becomes surprising.
We make free associations with the mobile phone (or the camera), at random. The out-of-field that is usually on the side when we move into the house here is put in the middle.
It comes out “the removed” of the house
A. Use a mobile phone or camera
B. Walk around the house without a purpose: start walking, without a goal, one step after the other, at random
C. Put your mobile phone or camera at the eye level of a 3/4 year old child, about the height of your belly.
D. Take pictures without thinking about it, carelessly to the right, to the left, up and down, as it comes . Also in another order. Randomly
E. Keep the images without building a logical sequence
Bio
Marina Ballo Charmet works with photography and video.
After graduating in philosophy she specialized in child psychology and psychoanalysis and worked as a psychotherapist in the public territorial services of Milan.
In her photographic and video projects her privileged subject is the everyday, the “always seen”, “the background noise of our mind”. She adopts a gaze characterized by perceptive mobility and out-of-focus, lateral or from below – typical of the infantile condition – that gives back a fluctuating vision, a “peripheral perception” linked to our preconscious.
She has exhibited in several museums and institutions in Italy and abroad, including the MAGA Museum in Gallarate, the Musée Unterlinden in Colmar, the Museo del Novecento in Milan, the MACRO in Rome, the Milan Triennale, the Fotomuseum Winterthur, the Centre National de la Photographie in Paris, and the Storefront for Art and Architecture in New York. She exhibited at the 12th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice in 2010 and at the 47th Venice Biennale of Art in 1997.
Her books include Con la coda dell’occhio. Writings on photography, Quodilibet (2017), Sguardo Terrestre, MACRO-Quodlibet (2013), Oracoli, santuari e altri prodigi. Sopralluoghi in Grecia, Humboldt-Quodlibet (2013), Il parco/The Park, Charta (2008), Marina Ballo Charmet, Fotografie e video 1993/2007, Electa (2007), Primo campo, Le Point du jour Éditeur (2004), Rumore di fondo, Art& (1998), Con la coda dell’occhio, Art& (1995), Il limite, Associazione Culturale Italo Francese, Bologna, Bari (1992).
